SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will be holding a canned food drive over the next week, benefiting the Joseph House in Salisbury.
Bins have been set up inside Maggs Physical Activities Center lobby and the athletic training room and will be available throughout the food drive which runs through Friday, November 17. On Saturday, November 11 bins will be in the concourse of Sea Gull Stadium when the football team hosts Frostburg State University for the 19th annual Regents Cup Game for donations.
Canned goods, and other nonperishable food items will be accepted. At Saturday's football game and the men's basketball season opener on Wednesday, November 15 against Washington (Md.) College, which begins at 7:30 p.m., a SAAC representative will be on hand to collect cash donations and answer any questions about the food drive and the organization.
Student-athletes have a voice in the NCAA through advisory committees at the campus, conference, and national level. Each committee is made up of student-athletes assembled to provide insight on the student-athlete experience and offer input on the rules, regulations and policies that affect student-athletes' lives on campus.
Since 1978, the Joseph House has been in Salisbury, Maryland, attending to the needs of the less fortunate on the lower Delmarva Peninsula. Volunteers and free-will donations are the vital and indispensable components of this care.
