SU finishes 2012 ranked 10th, 11th in baseball polls
SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University baseball team finished the 2012 season ranked 10th in the American Baseball Coaches Association and 11th in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers/D3baseball.com final polls, announced on Monday.
Salisbury received 164 points in the ABCA poll to finish behind Birmingham-Southern College (170), Webster University (183), Whitworth University (190), Kean University (193), Christopher Newport University (206), the State University of New York at Cortland (216), the University of St. Thomas (224), Wheaton (Mass.) College (232), and Marietta College (240). Marietta, which claimed the national championship for the second straight year, earned all eight of the poll's first-place votes.
SU picked up 349 points in the d3baseball.com poll to finish behind Birmingham-Southern (391), Keystone College (392), Whitworth (447), Webster (449), Kean (480), CNU (506), SUNY Cortland (552), St. Thomas (580) and Marietta (625). The Pioneers earned all 25 first-place votes in the poll.
Salisbury (34-9) earned its 13th consecutive NCAA tournament bid and 18th overall. The Sea Gulls advanced to the NCAA Newport News Regional championship game before falling to host CNU.
