Bennett, Fleetwood earn ECAC Division III Baseball South Region honors

CENTERVILLE, Mass. – Salisbury University senior catcher Tyler Bennett was named an ECAC Division III Baseball South Second Team All-Star and Head Coach Doug Fleetwood earned ECAC Division III Baseball South Coach of the Year, the league announced on Thursday.

Bennett hit .346 (56-for-162), leading the Sea Gulls with 40 RBIs, 14 doubles, four home runs and 82 total bases. Bennett slugged .506 and got on base at a .418 clip. The Federalsburg, Md., native made just two errors behind the plate for a .991 fielding percentage.

Bennett was also a 2012 All-CAC First Team selection, part of the ABCA All-South Region Second Team as well as the All-South Region Second Team. He was chosen to the Team of the Week twice and also picked up CAC Baseball Player of the Week accolades once.

Fleetwood piloted Salisbury to a 34-9 record, including a 15-3 mark in the CAC and the Sea Gulls' 13th consecutive and 18th overall NCAA tournament appearance after winning the CAC tournament for the 10th time in program history. Fleetwood, a nine-time CAC Coach of the Year, who completed his 12th season at the helm of SU, currently holds a 406-129-6 record at the school. His .756 winning percentage ranks second among active head coaches in NCAA Division III.

Salisbury advanced to NCAA Newport News Regional final, falling to host Christopher Newport University.
