SALISBURY, Md. – Salisbury University Head Coach Doug Fleetwood will be inducted into the Maryland State Association of Baseball Coaches (MSABC) Hall of Fame in a ceremony scheduled for Feb. 9 at the Oriole Park at Camden Yards warehouse at 6 p.m.
Fleetwood, who is entering his 13th season as head baseball coach at SU, has taken the Sea Gulls to 12 straight NCAA tournaments, including winning three NCAA South Regional titles with three trips to the NCAA Division III World Series. In addition, Fleetwood has guided his teams to eight Capital Athletic Conference championships and recorded at least 30 wins in 11 of his 12 seasons.
Fleetwood has been named CAC Coach of the Year nine times, including from 2001-04 and 2006-09. He is 406-129-6 (.756) overall and 125-34-1 (.784) in the CAC.
Fleetwood owns the top overall winning percentage in the CAC of coaches who have been at their institution for at least five seasons and also has the top winning percentage in CAC games of coaches who have been at their institution for at least five seasons.
With 18 wins this season, Fleetwood will move into third all-time among CAC coaches in total wins, passing Paul Saikia of York (Pa.) College, who tallied 423 from 1991-2011.
If Fleetwood wins 14 CAC games this season, he will move into first all-time in the conference in that category, passing Saikia, and longtime University of Mary Washington coach Tom Sheridan, who are currently tied for the conference lead at 138.
Tickets to the banquet are a $70 donation and are available by clicking here.
Salisbury, which advanced to the NCAA Newport News Regional final at Christopher Newport University, begins its 2013 campaign with a home-and-home series with Virginia Wesleyan College on Feb. 10-11. The Sea Gulls host the Marlins in the opener at 1 p.m., before traveling to Virginia Beach, Va., the next day for a 2 p.m., start.
