Baseball selected to finish first in the CAC

YORK, Pa. – The Capital Athletic Conference released the 2017 preseason baseball poll as selected by the league coaches. The Salisbury University baseball was recognized by the conference coaches and was selected to finish first in the CAC this upcoming season.

The Sea Gulls are defending CAC champions and earned 77 points while receiving six of 10 first-place votes. Conference runner up Frostburg State University was tabbed as second earning once first-place vote and 69 points while Marymount University (Va.) and Christopher Newport University came in fourth and fifth respectively.

The Saints garnered 68 points and two first-place votes while the Captains received one first-place vote and totaled 61 points. The University of Mary Washington rounded out the top five with 41 points.

Salisbury is coming off a 26-12 season in which it went 12-6 in the CAC finishing third in the regular season. The Sea Gulls won their 13th CAC title with an exciting 9-8 victory over No. 1 seeded Frostburg St. Salisbury advanced to the NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional but unfortunately fell to Pennsylvania State University – Berks 5-2 after falling to Kean University 7-1 and defeating Salve Regina University 5-3.

The Sea Gulls will open their season on February 11 at home against Gwynedd Mercy University at 1 p.m.
