Baseball moves to No. 18 in both ABCA, polls

SALISBURY, Md. - The organizations and the American Baseball Coaches Association released their week 7 Top 25 polls Tuesday. Salisbury University baseball was recognized by both and the ABCA as it earned the No. 18 ranking in each poll.

The Sea Gulls pushed their winning streak to nine last week and own a 23-8 overall record after defeating Marymount (Va.) University, 15-4, on April 5 and sweeping Pennsylvania State University-Harrisburg on Saturday, April 8 by the final scores of 10-0 and 14-3. With the victories the maroon and gold now hold a one-game lead over rival Christopher Newport University in the race for top spot in the Capital Athletic Conference sitting at a 14-1 record in conference. The Captains are no longer ranked in either poll but are receiving votes.

Shenandoah (Va.) University remains as the top team in the country in both polls boasting a 24-2 record. According to Birmingham-Southern is currently No. 2, while No. 3 belongs to the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater, LaGrange College comes in at No. 4 with University of Texas-Tyler at No.5. Those same five teams round out the top five for ABCA but Wisconsin-Whitewater is No. 2, LaGrange is ranked No. 3, and Birmingham-Southern comes in at No. 4.

Salisbury returns to action to tomorrow when it hosts Christopher Newport in a crucial matchup for the top spot in the CAC standings and playoff race. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
