Baseball moves to No. 16 in, ABCA polls

SALISBURY, Md. - The organizations and the American Baseball Coaches Association released their week 8 Top 25 polls Tuesday afternoon. Salisbury University baseball was recognized by both and the ABCA as it earned the No. 16 ranking in each poll.

The Sea Gulls turned in an impressive week winning three of four games with their only loss coming to then-No. 10 Johns Hopkins University 5-4 in extra innings. The maroon and gold defeated Capital Athletic Conference opponents Christopher Newport University on April 13, by the score of 7-2, to take a two-game lead in the CAC playoff race and secured home field throughout the playoff run with a sweep of York College of Pennsylvania by the final scores of 14-8 and 20-2 on Saturday, April 15.

Shenandoah University remained atop the Division III Baseball world as No. 1 nationally in the poll with a record of 27-3. LaGrange College enters this week as the No. 2 team while the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater is now No. 3. Birmingham-Southern College comes in at No. 4 while a new team enters the top five to round it out. The State University of New York at Cortland takes over at No. 5 replacing University of Texas at Tyler which fell to No.6.

The ABCA had a different top five with Wisconsin-Whitewater leading the nation as the No.1 team. Shenandoah came in with the No. 2 ranking while LaGrange was ranked No. 3. SUNY Cortland earned the No. 4 ranking with Texas-Tyler rounding out the top five.  

Salisbury begins its playoff run this afternoon when it hosts the University of Mary Washington in the first round of the CAC playoffs. First pitch scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
