SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University baseball team will take on Wesley College in the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament third round game on Friday, April 21 at 9 a.m. The winner of the matchup will automatically advance to the championship game on Saturday, April 22.

How we got here
The Sea Gulls defeated the third-seeded Spartans of York College of Pennsylvania on Thursday, April 20 by the final score of 15-1. Jay Perry continued his hot streak finishing the day 3-for-5 with a team-high three RBI and two runs scored. Scott Ardoin also turned in an impressive offensive performance going 3-for-4 on the afternoon belting his third home run of the year while tying Perry for the team-high in RBI with three and scoring one run. Jeff Oster was spectacular on the mound picking up his seventh win of the season to remain perfect going eight strong innings allowing three hits and one run while striking out four.
How they got here
Wesley battled Marymount (Va.) University in a thrilling final game on Thursday afternoon edging out its opponent by the final of 8-7. The Wolverines raced out to a 7-1 lead but had to hold on down the stretch surviving a late push by the Saints to earn the one run victory. Trey Mears continued his monstrous year going 3-for-4 from the plate with two RBI and two runs scored. Mike Piccirillo posted a team-high three RBI to go along with a 2-for-5 performance from the dish. Cody Simet picked up the win going seven innings pitched allowing nine hits and two earned runs.
Last time we met
Salisbury swept the season series against the Wolverines winning by scores of 9-8 on March 17 and then 7-5 on March 29. In the first contest the Sea Gulls held a 6-0 lead heading into the eighth but an eight run inning by Wesley quickly found the home team trailing by two. A three-run bottom of the eighth inning capped by a Pete Grasso double gave the maroon and gold the come from behind win. In the second meeting Barry helped carry Salisbury to victory finishing 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, and a team-high three RBI.
Scouting the Wolverines
In 32 games this season the Wolverines have posted a team batting average of .322 and an on-base percentage of .455. Since starting the month of April being swept by the University of Mary Washington, Wesley has won seven of its last nine contests including three straight outscoring its opponents 30-15 during the winning streak. Trey Mears continues to be an offensive juggernaut totaling 66 hits, 48 RBI, a batting average of .516 and a slugging percentage of .781.
Since both teams are undefeated in the double elimination tournament the winner would automatically advance to the championship game on Saturday, April 22 at 11 a.m. The loser would play the winner of the Marymount vs. Mary Washington game for the right to play in the CAC championship.
