Baseball finishes the season as No. 14 in, No. 15 in ABCA polls

SALISBURY, Md. – The organizations and the American Baseball Coaches Association released their final Top 25 polls of the season on Monday afternoon. Salisbury University baseball was recognized by both earning the No. 14 ranking in the poll and the No. 15 ranking in the ABCA poll.

The Sea Gulls completed the season with an overall record of 35-11 falling to Roanoke College in the final game of the South Region of the NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament. With the loss Salisbury finished one game short of advancing to the College Baseball World Series.

California Lutheran University, which captured the 2017 Division III College World Series title, earned the top spot in both polls with clean sweeps in the votes for the No. 1 spot. Cal Lutheran finished the season with an overall record of 40-11. Washington and Jefferson University earned the No. 2 ranking in both polls as well with the remainder of the top five being quite different from there down. LaGrange (Ga.) College came in at No. 3 while Birmingham-Southern (Ala.) College finished at No. 4 in the ABCA poll. Rounding out the top five is University of Massachusetts at Boston, which came all the way up from No. 17 in the last poll before the tournament started.

With both Cal Lutheran and Washington and Jefferson staying as the top two teams in the country, the poll started out similar to the ABCA poll. Coming in at No. 3 were the Maroons of Roanoke, who were previously not ranked back on May 14. UMass-Boston earned the No. 4 ranking in the final poll while North Central (Ill.) College came in at No. 5, which was also unranked during the last poll in May.
