FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Capital Athletic Conference released its 2018 preseason baseball poll on Friday afternoon. The poll, which is voted on by the league's coaches, has selected the Salisbury University baseball team to finish first in the CAC this season.
The Sea Gulls enter the season as the defending conference champions and returns seven of its starters in 2018. That was enough for Salisbury to earn 78 total points in the poll, including six first-place votes.
Christopher Newport University earned the second-most points with 75, including four first-place votes. Marymount (Va.) University finished third, with 62 points. Frostburg State University and the University of Mary Washington rounded out the top five, with 54 and 46 points, respectively.
Salisbury finished the 2017 season with a 35-11 overall record and 17-1 in conference play. The team went on to win the conference championship by defeating Mary Washington, 21-0. They made it within a few outs of a trip to the College World Series before falling to Roanoke University in the final game of the NCAA South Regional.
The Sea Gulls open their 2018 season on Saturday, February 10 at home against Gwynedd Mercy University at 1 p.m.
