ASTON, Pa. – The Salisbury University baseball team earned a shutout victory over host Neumann University on Monday afternoon at Bruder Field.
Salisbury (9-4) got off to a great start, collecting five runs in the opening frame. Leadoff hitter Justin Meekins opened the game with a single up the middle. Kyle Canavan then attempted to move his teammate over on a sacrifice bunt, but a throwing error by the third baseman allowed the left fielder to reach base safely. Scott Ardoin drew a four-pitch walk two outs later to load the bases for Matt Padeway, who made the most of his at-bat by driving in two runs on a single to left-center field. Troy Miller drew a four-pitch walk in the next at-bat to load the bases once again. This time, it was Colby Dean's turn to add to the Sea Gull lead. Dean's bases-clearing double to left field pushed the early lead to 5-0.
The Knights (8-7) had no answer for Salisbury starter Connor Reeves, who threw a complete game shutout. Reeves struck out six batters while only allowing three hits and issuing no walks on the afternoon.
Dean and Padeway each collected three RBI to lead the offense.
The team will travel to Newport News, Virginia on Wednesday, March 21 when it faces Christopher Newport University for its first Capital Athletic Conference game of the season. First pitch is set for 3:45 p.m.
