Video: Baseball vs Mary Washington
The No. 24 Salisbury University baseball team returned to action when it hosted Capital Athletic Conference rival the University of Mary Washington on Saturday, April 14 at Sea Gull Baseball Stadium. Down 2-0 early, Matt Padeway led off the third inning with a solo shot to right field. Two more runs would score in the frame to give the Sea Gulls the 3-2 lead. The lead did not last long, however, as Mary Washington erupted for 10 runs in the fourth and fifth innings, but A grand slam by Simon Palenchar in the bottom half of the fifth inning helped trim the deficit to only three runs. Trailing by five runs in the eighth inning, Jay Perry did his part by smacking a three-run home run to left-center field. Justin Meekins followed it up a few at-bats later with a two-run blast to right field to tie the game at 15 runs apiece. Will Gutenkunst capped off the improbable comeback with a two-out, walk off single in the bottom of the ninth inning to help lead his team to the 16-15 victory. The Team returns to action on Tuesday, April 17 when it travels to Rowan University. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
