Punter Geisert named ACFC Special Team Player of the Week
SALISBURY, Md. - Salisbury University's senior punter Andrew Geisert (White Plains, Md.) garnered Atlantic Central Football Conference (ACFC) Special Teams Player of the Week honors for his performance in Saturday's 24-17 loss to North Carolina Wesleyan College.
The Salisbury punter pinned the Bishops' offense inside its own 20-yard line twice, and his three punts totaled 117 yards, with an average of 39 yards per kick. Geisert's longest punt of the day was for 46 yards early in the second quarter, and left Wesleyan with starting field position on their own 4-yard line.
The White Plains Md., native had last received Player of the Week honors back on Sept. 15 2007, when he recorded six punts for a total of 209 yards (34.8 yards per attempt averaged) in SU's 35-21 win over Christopher Newport. Geisert's longest punt for that day was 50 yards.
Geisert is the second consecutive Sea Gull to obtain Player of the Week honors this season for special teams. Salisbury Kicker, Tommy Kowalick (Sterling, Va.) garnered the honors last week with his performance in the SU victory over Pace University.
The Sea Gulls will be back in action on Sept. 19 at 1 p.m., when they travel to play Christopher Newport University.
