Sea Gulls ranked No. 24 in USA Today Sports Weekly preseason Top 25 poll

MCLEAN, Va. - The Salisbury University football program is ranked No. 24 in the USA Today Sports Weekly College Football Preview Division III poll. This is the first 2009 preseason ranking for the SU football team.

The top five in the preseason poll is led by No. 1 Mount Union College, the defending national champion, followed by national finalist University of Wisconsin-Whitewater at No. 2. University of Mary Hardin-Baylor checks in at No. 3 followed by Hardin-Simmons University and North Central College rounds out the top five.

American Central Football Conference (ACFC) foe Wesley College checks in at No. 11 in the preseason poll. The Salisbury and Wesley will renew its Rt. 13 rivalry on Saturday, October 31, at 1 p.m. in Dover, Del. The other ranked team the Sea Gulls will face this season is No. 21 Christopher Newport University on Saturday, September 18, at 1 p.m. in Newport News, Va.

SU will begin its season on Saturday, September 5, at Sea Gull Stadium against Division II foe Pace University at 1 p.m. The Sea Gulls are set to return 67 letterwinners from the '08 squad that posted a 9-2 record and won the ECAC Southwest Bowl.
