Hawks tabbed Empire 8 Special Teams Player of the Week

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Salisbury University sophomore Tommy Hawks earned Empire 8 Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.

Hawks blocked a potential go-ahead extra point for Christopher Newport University in the third quarter of a 13-13 tie on Saturday. The Captains knotted the game on the previous play and could have taken the lead with the point after, but Hawks got a hand on the ball. Salisbury then scored touchdowns on three straight possessions, going onto a 40-16 victory.

The Sea Gulls' starting nose guard, Hawks also made two tackles for the game.

Sixth-ranked Salisbury hosts No. 3 Wesley College in its home opener Saturday at Sea Gull Stadium at 6 p.m.
