Buckley, Carter earn D3football.com Team of the Week honors

MINNEAPOLIS – Salisbury University juniors Joey Buckley and Andre Carter have been named to the D3football.com Team of the Week, the website announced Tuesday.

Buckley posted the game-winning touchdown in the Sea Gulls' 20-7 win at Buffalo State to open Empire 8 play on Saturday. Buckley blocked Buffalo State punter Joe Going's second-quarter kick on the Bengals 3-yard line and ran it into the end zone for a 13-0 lead.

Buckley, a defensive tackle, has four tackles and one tackle for loss to go along with the blocked kick and touchdown in four games this season.

Carter made a team-high eight tackles (five solo) and broke up a game-best five passes. He helped limit the Bengals to 142 yards and an interception on 13-for-30 passing.

Carter, a corner back, leads Salisbury with seven passes defended, is fourth on the team with 20 tackles, has two tackles for loss and one fumble recovery on the season.

The two Sea Gulls are the second and third of the season to pick up D3football.com weekly honors. Junior linebacker Issa Diarra was named to the team on Sept. 18.

The Team of the Week is D3football.com's weekly honor roll, recognizing the top performances at 14 positions from the previous week.

No. 10 Salisbury (3-1, 1-0 Empire 8) travels to Pittsford, N.Y., to face eighth-ranked St. John Fisher College (4-0, 1-0) on Saturday at noon at Growney Stadium.
