Hamby earns BSN Punter of the Week
LEESBURG, Va. – Salisbury University sophomore punter Kyle Hamby has been named the Beyond Sports Network Division III Punter of the Week, the website announced on Monday.
Hamby helped the eighth-ranked Sea Gulls to a 24-21 win over Alfred University Saturday at Sea Gull Stadium. Hamby punted five times, placing a career-high four in the Saxons 20-yard line.
A Laurel, Md., native, Hamby averaged 48.4 yards per kick with a long of 64.
In seven games this season, Hamby has punted 28 times, pinning the opposition inside its 20 on 15 occasions. He has a season-long punt of 68 yards and his 43.7 yards-per-punt average ranks second in Division III.
He is the fourth Salisbury player to earn BSN honors this season. Superback Joe Benedetti (Sept. 4) and linebacker Steven Gamble and cornerback Paul Moore (Oct. 8) have also claimed awards for their respective positions.
BSN is a sports media site that features colleges and players from the FCS, Division II, Division III, and NAIA levels. The staff selects award winners for Offensive Line of the Week, Defense of the Week, Offensive Players of the Week, Defensive Players of the Week and Special Teams Players of the Week.
Salisbury travels to Ithaca, N.Y., Saturday to take on Ithaca College at Butterfield Stadium at noon.
