PITMAN, N.J. – The New Jersey Athletic Conference announced its first Player of the Week awards and Salisbury University sophomore Sean Rowland was named the league's Special Teams Player of the Week.
Rowland electrified the crowd of nearly 4,000 by taking the opening kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown against then-No. 16 Albright College on Friday night. He took the kick near the left hash mark and got through a hole at the 25-yard line before breaking down the left sideline, breaking one tackle and going the distance.
It was one of three kick returns for Rowland, who averaged 56.7 yards per return in the game. He was one of just nine players in the nation to return a kickoff for a touchdown this week.
Rowland and the Sea Gulls are off this week, but return to action on September 17, hosting Montclair State University in the team's NJAC opener.
