Boone named NJAC Defensive Rookie of the Week

PITMAN, N.J. – The New Jersey Athletic Conference announced its weekly football awards and Salisbury University freshman Andre Boone was named the league's Defensive Rookie of the Week.

Against Southern Virginia University this past Saturday, Boone helped lead a defensive effort which surrendered just 178 yards of total offense, all coming on the ground, as the Sea Gull secondary held the Knights to 0-of-5 passing.

Boone, a defensive back, notched eight tackles in the 35-0 win, the first shutout for the SU defense since the 2013 season. Four of Boone's stops were solo tackles, while he also had half a tackle for a loss in the game.

This season, Boone leads the Salisbury defense with 18 tackles, including 11 solo stops and one interception.

The Sea Gulls return home this Saturday, October 1, when they host The College of New Jersey for Homecoming. The contest is scheduled to kickoff at 1 p.m.
