Sea Gulls perched at No. 4 in 2012 Penn Monto/NFHCA Division III preseason poll

CHANDLER, Ariz. - The Salisbury University field hockey team will begin its 2012 season as one of the top-five teams in the nation. The Sea Gulls begin their journey towards their sixth national title perched at No. 4 in the 2012 Penn Monto/NFHCA Division III Preseason Poll.

Last year, the maroon and gold wrapped up its season with an 18-2 overall record and an unblemished, 7-0, Capital Athletic Conference seizing the program's 16th CAC title.

Salisbury will face five teams ranked in the preseason poll in top-ranked and defending 2011 Division III national champion, The College of New Jersey. SU's schedule also includes No. 5 Messiah College, No. 11 Catholic University of America, No. 17 Christopher Newport University and No. 18 Rowan University.

Bowdoin College and Middlebury College sit at second and third in the nation, respectively.

The Sea Gulls will kick off the season at the Wilkes Invitational, a two-day tournament, where they will take on Wittenberg University on Aug. 31. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.

Salisbury will host Christopher Newport at Sea Gull Stadium on Sept. 6 at 6 p.m.
