CHANDLER, Ariz. – After winning two games last week, including a come-from-behind penalty-shootout victory, the Salisbury University field hockey team has claimed the No. 1 spot in the 2012 Penn Monto/NFHCA Division III National Coaches Poll.
Salisbury is 32 points ahead of second-ranked Middlebury College and claimed 13 first-place votes as No. 3 The College of New Jersey still has a strong grasp with 31 first-place votes. Middlebury collected the final 16 first-place votes.
The top-five teams saw plenty of change as the Lions fell from No. 1 to No. 3 while the Sea Gulls and the Panthers each moved up one spot. Messiah College held steady in the fourth slot, while Skidmore College entered the top five.
Of the five top-ranked teams, four have undefeated records. Capital Athletic Conference rival the University of Mary Washington now sits at No. 7 and is the only other undefeated team in the poll.
Salisbury will head to Johns Hopkins University on Wednesday, Sept. 26, for a non-conference matchup. That game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
