CHANDLER, Ariz. – The Salisbury University field hockey team dropped from the nation's top spot to No. 2 in the 2012 Penn Monto/NFHCA Division III National Coaches Poll, released on Tuesday.
Salisbury went 1-1 last week including a 2-1 victory over then-No. 16 Rowan University and a loss to Capital Athletic Conference opponent University of Mary Washington. The Sea Gulls collected five first-place votes in the poll.
The top five saw minor adjustments as Middlebury College took over the No. 1 spot with 45 first-place votes as Bowdoin College and Montclair State University each stayed put in the third and fourth spots, respectively. Bowdoin earned one first-place vote.
The University of Mary Washington entered back into the top five while Franklin & Marshall College sits in the sixth slot with the final first-place vote.
The Sea Gulls continue in conference play on Wednesday, Oct. 17, against Wesley College at Sea Gull Stadium. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
Wednesday night will also mark the field hockey team's third annual "Corners for Cancer" event in which fans may make donations for each penalty corner SU earns, all proceeds will go towards SU's Relay for Life. Fans are encouraged to wear pink, as the field hockey team will show their support in the fight against breast cancer as they sport their pink jerseys.
