Sea Gulls remain No. 2 team in nation
CHANDLER, Ariz. – After two wins last week, the Salisbury University field hockey team remains the second-ranked team in the nation in the 2012 Penn Monto/NFHCA Division III National Coaches poll, released on Tuesday.
The Sea Gulls (13-1) went on to win two Capital Athletic Conference games against Wesley College and Frostburg State University to secure a first-round bye in the CAC tournament, advancing to the tournament's semifinal round that will be held at Sea Gull Stadium against the winner of Wesley and Frostburg State.
Middlebury College stayed atop the poll with 1,092 points and 49 first-place votes while SU has 1,032 points and two first-place votes. No. 2 Bowdoin College and No. 3 Montclair State University earned 938 points and 900 points, respectively, with Bowdoin picking up a first-place vote. Franklin & Marshall College reentered the top five with 877 points and three first-place votes.
The final first-place vote was claimed by No. 10 The College of New Jersey.
SU hosts TCNJ on Tuesday at 6 p.m. The game marks the final regular-season home contest for the Sea Gulls where the team's five seniors will be recognized.
Salisbury will then travel to No. 18 Elizabethtown College to wrap up its regular season on Friday, Oct. 26.
