CHANDLER, Ariz. – For the third consecutive week, the Salisbury University field hockey team remains the No. 2 team in the nation in the 2012 Penn Monto/NFHCA Division III National Coaches poll, released on Tuesday.
The Sea Gulls (15-1) finished out their regular season with victories over No. 10 The College of New Jersey, 4-1, and No. 18 Elizabethtown College, 2-0.
Middlebury College remains the only undefeated team in the poll and continues to fill the top spot with 31 first-place votes and 692 points. Salisbury earned two first-place votes and 670 points.
Montclair State University (591 points), Franklin & Marshall College (585 points) and the University of Mary Washington (538 points) each moved up one spot to claim third, fourth and fifth in the nation, respectively. Bowdoin College (530 points) dropped out of the top five after a loss to then-No. 8 Tufts University (517 points).
Franklin & Marshall picked up two first-place votes with Bowdoin claiming the final first-place vote.
SU enters Capital Athletic Conference tournament play on Thursday, Nov. 1, as the Sea Gulls host Wesley College in a semifinal contest. The last time the two teams met, Salisbury edged the Wolverines, 2-1, in overtime. Game time is slated for 6 p.m.
