CHANDLER, Ariz. - In the final Penn Monto/NFHCA Division III National Coaches Poll of the 2012 season, released on Tuesday, the Salisbury University field hockey team sits at No. 4 in the nation.
Salisbury (15-2) dropped two spots after falling to Wesley College, 4-3, after three rounds of penalty shots in the Capital Athletic Conference tournament semifinal contest.
The top five teams in the nation remained the same, however, No. 2 Montclair State University and No. 3 University of Mary Washington each moved up a spot after claiming their respective conference championships. Middlebury College remains No. 1 as the only undefeated team in the poll with 27 first-place votes. Montclair State claimed one first-place vote while No. 5 Franklin & Marshall College garnered three first-place votes.
Of the top 20 teams in the poll, 16 will be competing in the NCAA tournament, which begins this week.
Salisbury received a first-round bye and will host second and third-round matches at Sea Gull Stadium on Nov. 10 and 11. Salisbury will play the winner of No. 12 Rowan College and No. 20 University of Rochester (N.Y.), who play on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 2 p.m. Saturday's game is slated for 11 a.m.
