YORK, Pa. – The Salisbury University field hockey team is slated to claim its 20th Capital Athletic Conference championship this season as the league released the results of its preseason coaches' poll on Tuesday.
Salisbury was a unanimous pick for the top spot, receiving the maximum six first-place votes (coaches may not vote for their own team) and 36 points, followed by Christopher Newport University (28 points and one first-place vote) and the University of Mary Washington (28 points) which are tied for second.
York College of Pennsylvania was tabbed to finish fourth with 22 points, followed by St. Mary's College of Maryland (15 points), Frostburg State University (12), and Wesley College (six).
Salisbury has claimed the last three CAC titles, and returns six seniors to the team in 2016 as the squad looks to get back to the NCAA tournament for the 32nd time.
The Sea Gulls, who went 14-4 a year ago, open the season on Thursday, September 1 at Washington (Md.) College.
