INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA announced its field for the 2016 Division III field hockey championship, and though the Salisbury University team knew it was in the field following its Capital Athletic Conference championship, the team did not know where its path would lead.
The Sea Gulls learned on Sunday night that they had earned a first-round bye in the tournament, and will serve as a host of one of four second/third-round sites this upcoming weekend at Sea Gull Stadium.
Salisbury will take on either Kenyon College or Elizabethtown College in the second round, after the two teams square off on Wednesday in a first-round affair. Ursinus College has also earned a first-round bye and will play in Salisbury next weekend against the winner of another first-round contest between Trinity (Conn.) College and Cabrini University.
The announcement marks the 32nd NCAA tournament berth for the Salisbury field hockey program, and first time hosting since 2014.
Game times for the second-round games on Saturday, November 12 have not been set. Visit www.suseagulls.com more information on the games, as it becomes available.
