FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Capital Athletic Conference announced its weekly awards for field hockey on Monday and Salisbury University sophomore Lindsey Elgin was named the league's Defensive Player of the Week.
Elgin led the Salisbury defense to a pair of 2-1 victories last week, topping Johns Hopkins University at home and then traveling to No. 3 The College of New Jersey, upending the Lions in overtime.
The Sea Gull defense allowed just 17 shot attempts in the two contests, with only eight on goal. One of those eight tries on goal came in the second half of the TCNJ game, with the contest still scoreless. Elgin was at the goal line and recorded her first career defensive save to keep the game tied, allowing Salisbury to earn the overtime win.
Elgin and the Sea Gulls return to action on Saturday, September 30 when they travel to No. 17 Christopher Newport University for their next CAC contest.
