VIDEO: Field hockey shuts out St. Mary's in regular-season finale

Oct 25, 2017

The No. 7 Salisbury University field hockey team closed out the regular season on Wednesday, October 25 with a 2-0 win against St. Mary’s College of Maryland. The Sea Gull defense allowed just this one shot, coming in the closing minutes as Salisbury notched its fifth-straight shutout. Good ball movement early in the game from Jillian Hughes, Jenna Partilla, and Emily Lemanski led to a penalty stroke chance, with freshman Rebecca Lloyd converting for the 1-0 lead. Early in the second half, Lloyd nearly had a second goal, but this defensive save by Sophie Michel kept the difference at one goal momentarily. Partilla scored the final goal of the night – her third of the year – a minute later, getting a fortunate bounce for the 2-0 Salisbury lead. The Sea Gulls will be the No. 2 seed in next week’s Capital Athletic Conference tournament, hosting third-seeded York College of Pennsylvania next Wednesday, November 1, beginning at 6 p.m.
