GILBERT, Ariz. – The most recent Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III Coaches Poll was released on Tuesday, and the Salisbury University field hockey team earned the No. 8 spot.
The top-four teams in the nation remain unchanged from last week, and the top three remain undefeated – Middlebury College at No. 1 with 1,211 points, Messiah College at No. 2 with 1,041 points, Tufts University at No. 3 with 1,041 points, and The College of New Jersey at No. 4 with 1,005 points. Last week's No. 6 team, Bowdoin College, moved up to No. 5 with 826 points.
Salisbury (7-2) was one of several teams who shuffled around in the remainder of the top-10 spots. The Sea Gulls, who were ranked seventh last week, were replaced by last week's No. 9 team, Rowan University (761 points). The University of Rochester (782 points) moved up to No. 6 from No. 8, and Babson College (628 points) tumbled to No. 9 from No. 5. Rounding out the top 10 is Montclair State University (603 points), which was ranked No. 11 last week.
The Sea Gulls are one of two Capital Athletic Conference teams to be ranked in the top 20 this week, the other being Christopher Newport University at No. 11 with 565 points.
Salisbury welcomes the Catholic University of America to Sea Gull Stadium on Wednesday, October 3, at 6 p.m. The Sea Gulls kick off conference play on the road on Saturday, October 6, against Frostburg State University; that game is slated to begin at 11 a.m.
