Field hockey picks up NFHCA academic honors

GILBERT, Ariz. – The National Field Hockey Coaches Association released its 2018 academic honors and Salisbury University's field hockey squad received a number of accolades.

As a team, Salisbury was named one of 131 Division III programs to earn the Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III National Academic Team Award, having a team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher during the fall 2018 semester.

Two Sea Gulls were named individually as Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III Scholars of Distinction with a cumulative GPA of 3.9 or higher through the fall semester. Juniors Sarah Jackson and Arielle Johnston each picked up the honor, marking the third-straight year for each of the Sea Gulls to earn the accolade.

Johnston and Jackson joined 11 of their teammates on the Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad, for carrying a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher through the fall semester. Seniors Madison Andrews, Emily Lemanski, Emma Vicchio; juniors Tara Daddio, Rachel Domanico, Lindsey Elgin, Caitlin Harris, Jillian Hughes; sophomores Lydia Dexter, Kate Melvin, and freshman Caroline Keniston joined Jackson and Johnston on the Academic Squad. Lemanski and Vicchio closed out their careers being named to the squad in all four years in maroon and gold.

Overall, 1,746 student-athletes were named to the squad from Division III.
