INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA announced the field of 64 teams for the 2017 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament on Monday afternoon, and after a long wait following the team's narrow loss in the Capital Athletic Conference championship game on Saturday, the Salisbury University men's basketball team got the good news that it would get to play in the national tournament.
Salisbury earned one of 21 at-large bids into the field and will be making the program's eighth NCAA tournament appearance and it will be the first time in program history that the squad has appeared in three-straight tournaments.
The Sea Gulls (20-7) will head to a four-team site at Neumann University, and will take on Endicott College in the opening round on Friday, March 3. The host Knights will take on Nichols College in the other first-round game with the winners playing on Saturday.
Salisbury just missed out on an automatic berth in the field, falling 63-62 in the CAC championship game at Christopher Newport University on Saturday. The Captains, the only other CAC representative, will be in action on Friday in a first-round game played at Swarthmore College.
