FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Capital Athletic Conference released the 2017-18 men's basketball preseason poll on Tuesday morning. Salisbury University finished tied for third with the University of Mary Washington garnering 57 total points.
The Sea Gulls are coming off a 20-8 season going 14-4 in conference play. Salisbury finished second in the CAC after falling to Christopher Newport University in the conference championship. The team did advance to the NCAA tournament but eventually feel to Endicott College in the first round.
Christopher Newport was selected to repeat as conference champions earning six first-place votes while also garnering 77 points. York College of Pennsylvania was picked to finish second finishing with 76 points and receiving four first-place votes. St. Mary's College of Maryland rounded out the top five earning 47 points, finishing 10 point behind both Salisbury and Mary Washington.
The final five teams finished six through 10 in the poll as follows; Wesley College (41), Marymount (Va.) University (38), Pennsylvania State University – Harrisburg (27), Southern Virginia University (16), and Frostburg State University (14).
Salisbury opens its season on Wednesday, November 15 when it hosts Washington College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
