Barcikowski nets career-high 31-points, Sea Gulls fall to Eagles

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's basketball team saw its six-game winning streak snapped on Saturday afternoon falling to the University of Mary Washington, 88-82.

The Eagles (14-5, 8-4 CAC) outscored the Sea Gulls (13-6, 9-3 CAC), 48-33, in the second half to overcome a nine-point halftime deficit and capture the conference victory.

Chad Barcikowski was outstanding for the Sea Gulls as he recorded a career-high 31 points on the afternoon including 19 in the opening half of action. Barcikowski posted a 6-of-8 mark from the field including an 80 percent performance from behind the three-point arc in the game's opening 20 minutes.

The Salisbury defense was stifling early on aiding the offense in the first half, forcing 14 Eagle turnovers, tallying nine steals, and 22 points off of turnovers including 12 via fast break. Meanwhile the maroon and gold totaled only six turnovers leading to just six points for Mary Washington.

The Gulls led for over 16 minutes of the first half and took a 49-40 lead into the locker room.

However, the Mary Washington offense exploded in the second half knocking down 13-of-23 shots from the field and posted a 50 percent mark from beyond the arc. For the game the Eagles posted an overall shooting percentage of 60 percent while finishing the game 13-of-26 from three-point range.

Blair Davis was the only other Sea Gull to tally double-digits netting 14 points for the afternoon on a 5-of-10 performance from the field.

As a team, Salisbury finished the game 31-of-68 from the field and 33.3 percent from beyond the arc. The Sea Gulls pulled down 28 rebounds and forced 19 Eagle turnovers while committing just 11 themselves.

Salisbury returns to action on Wednesday, January 31 when it hosts Christopher Newport University in a pivotal Capital Athletic Conference showdown. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. between the Sea Gulls and Captains.
