CAC First Round: Men's Basketball vs. Wesley
The Salisbury University men’s basketball outlasted route 13 Wesley College in the first round of the Capital Athletic Conference picking up a 75-68 on Tuesday evening. Chad Barcikowski, who led the team with a game-high 21 points, gave the Sea Gulls the lead with 3:14 on two made free-throws. It was the 15th and final lead change of the game and helped the maroon and gold punch its ticket to the semifinals against York College of Pennsylvania. Barcikowski finished the game going 7-of-16 from the field while knocking down two three-pointers, grabbing a team-high eight rebounds, and adding in two steals. It is Barcikowski’s eighth 20-point game of the season. Johnny Fierstein finished the night as Salisbury’s second leading scorer netting 13 points on a 4-of-9 performance from the field. He also knocked down 4-of-5 free-throws including two in the final minute to help preserve the victory. He grabbed seven rebounds and swiped a team-high three steals. Lucas Martin totaled 10 points but made the biggest shot of the night with just over two minute to play. After a Barcikowski missed three-pointer Martin got above a sea of hands and managed to tip the ball back into the net to push the Gulls advantage to four. Salisbury will now travel to No. 2 seeded York College on Thursday, February 22 for a 7 p.m. tip. It will be the second straight season the Sea Gulls and Spartans have met in the semifinal round.
