YORK, Pa. - The Capital Athletic Conference announced its weekly player of the week awards and Salisbury University senior midfielder Kylor Berkman was named the men's lacrosse recipient for the week of April 27. This is the second time this season the two-time CAC Player of the Year has been named Player of the Week.
Berkman helped the No. 5 Sea Gulls (15-3) capture their sixth straight Charles B. Clark Cup with a thrilling 12-11 victory over Eastern Shore rival Washington (Md.) College. Berkman scored four goals and dished out one assist. The Salisbury, Md., native fed sophomore Erik Krum for the game-tying goal with 10 minutes left in the final quarter. Six minutes later the senior co-captain scored the game-winner with 4:34 left in the game.
Berkman previously was awarded this honor on February 24. Freshman Matt Cannone, the 2009 CAC Rookie of the Year, is the only other Sea Gull to win this men's lacrosse award back on March 2.
Salisbury will next wait for the official announcement of the 2009 NCAA Division III men's lacrosse tournament field which will be announced on Sunday, May 3. The Sea Gulls, the two-time defending national champions, won the CAC tournament back on April 19 with a 13-5 win over former No. 1 Stevenson University to earn the automatic bid.
