YORK, Pa. - The Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) announced its weekly player of the week award and Salisbury University freshman Matt Cannone was named the men's lacrosse recipient for the week of March 2.
Cannone led No. 1 Salisbury to a 2-0 record last week as notched 11 goals, one assist, and three ground balls. He tallied 12 points for the week which was second to only senior Kylor Berkman's 15 points. The Bayport, N.Y., native paced the Sea Gulls with five goals in their 18-5 victory over Rt. 13 rival Wesley College. Cannone then put together a career game in Salisbury's 17-5 victory over Widener last Saturday as he posted career-highs in goals (six) and points (seven). For the season, the rookie stands second on the team in both goals (15) and points (18).
Cannone is the second Sea Gull of the spring to earn CAC Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week honors. Berkman earned the first honor of the season last week on February 24.
Salisbury will next travel to Frederick, Md., on Wednesday, March 4, to take on CAC foe Hood College at 3:30 p.m.
