Four Sea Gulls honored as preseason All-Americans

BALTIMORE - The 2013 Face-Off Yearbook Division III Preseason All-Americans were announced on Thursday by Inside Lacrosse, and four members of the Salisbury University men's lacrosse team were named to the teams.

Senior midfielders Ryan Clarke and Tyler Granelli were both named to the first team after a 2012 season in which they were key components to the Sea Gulls claiming their 10th national championship.

Clarke, as a 2012 United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association first-team All-American, finished the season second on the team with 29 assists and fourth in goals (35) and points (94).

Granelli, another first-team All-American, was named the USILA Face-Off Specialist of the Year last season, as he ranked 10th in face-off winning percentage (.663) and 13th in ground balls per game (8.2). He led Salisbury with 164 ground balls on the season.

Junior goalkeeper Alex Taylor was honored as a member of the second team. Taylor started all 23 games for Salisbury in the cage with a .660 save percentage and allowed only 4.92 goals per game.

Junior defender Zeke Smith was named to the third team after leading Salisbury with 50 caused turnovers. Smith was a member of the nation's No. 2 scoring defense (five goals allowed per game) and scooped up 63 ground balls, good for third on the team.

Taylor and Smith were both All-American honorable mentions in 2012.
