PERRY, N.Y. – The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association released its Player of the Year Division III Watch List for the 2018 season. Salisbury University senior defenseman Kyle Tucker earned recognition from the organization as one of the 12 finalists.
Tucker completed an impressive junior year campaign starting 22 of 23 games in which he caused 30 turnovers and scooped up 67 groundballs, which ranked him third on the team. He also helped anchor a defense that allowed just a 6.68 goals against per game mark last season. Tucker will be looked at as one of the primary leaders both defensively and overall for the defending national champions in 2018.
The award will be presented to the nation's most outstanding men's lacrosse player as voted on by each respective divisions All-American Coach Committee. Former attackman and graduate Nathan Blondino was named the 2017 USILA Division III Player of the Year in his final year wearing the maroon and gold.
Updates to the "watch list" will be released on March 12 and April 16, while three finalists will be announced on May 7. The winners for Division I, II and III will be announced at the Final Four banquets (Division I on May 24 and Divisions II/III on May 25) at Gillette Stadium.
Tucker was also nominated to the US Lacrosse Magazine 2018 preseason Player of the Year finalist watch list just earlier this month.
Salisbury opens its season on Sunday, February 4 when it hosts No. 19 Hampden-Sydney College. Face-off between the Sea Gulls and Tigers is scheduled for 12 p.m.
