Men's Lacrosse vs. Morrisville State NCAA 2nd Round Game
The number seven ranked Salisbury University men’s lacrosse team opened its 2018 national defense hosting Morrisville State College on Wednesday night in the NCAA Division III Second Round contest. The Sea Gulls cruised to a 19-5 victory over the Mustangs behind goals from 12 different players. Troy Miller opened the scoring for the maroon and gold finishing off a pass from Corey Gwin, who finished his night with three points netting a goal and dishing out two assists. The Sea Gulls had three players finish the game with hat tricks led by Garrett Reynolds, who finished the game with a team-high four goals. Reynolds netted three goals in the first half including back-to-back markers in the first quarter to aid in Salisbury’s eight-goal opening quarter. Griffin Moroney and Josh Melton each tallied three-goal performances as well to aid in the victory. Moroney netted back-to-back goals in the first quarter while Melton netted goals in three of four quarters. Moroney capped his scoring performance with this impressive finish tracking down the loose ball in front of the net and flipping it under the cross bar to push Salisbury’s lead to 15-3 early in the fourth quarter. Melton finished the game with a team-best six points, making it his second game this season that he has tallied six points. The defense continued their impressive run as of late holding the Mustangs offense scoreless for nearly 23 minutes of game action to open the contest. The defense forced Morrisville State into 19 turnovers while causing eight of them led by Will Nowesnick’s team-high two. Brandon Warren earned his 14th win of the season while he and Anthony Stavrakis combined to make six saves. Salisbury returns to action on Saturday, May 12 when it hosts Capital Athletic Conference No. 16 Christopher Newport University. It will be the third meeting between the two programs this season with Salisbury claiming the first two. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
