Malamphy named CAC Defensive Player of the Week

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Capital Athletic Conference released its weekly men's lacrosse awards on Monday afternoon and senior faceoff specialist Brett Malamphy earned conference honors as he was named CAC Defensive Player of the Week.

Malamphy played a vital role in the top ranked Sea Gulls 2-0 week as he posted a .741 winning percentage from the faceoff X claiming 40-of-54 faceoffs. He added in a team-best 29 groundballs during the week as well.

Against then No. 20 Christopher Newport University on April 10 he won 17-of-20 faceoffs including a perfect 7-of-7 mark in the first quarter. His seven wins translated to six goals in the opening frame, which included two goals that occurred within a minute or less of the faceoff win. It was his 10th double-digit faceoff win performance of the season while his 14 groundballs in the victory marked the fourth time he has scooped up double-digit groundballs.

On Saturday, April 13 against Washington College Malamphy won 23-of-34 faceoffs for a win percentage of .676 while he added a new career-high, 15 groundballs. It marked the 11th game he has totaled double-digit faceoff wins while his double-digit groundballs is the third straight game he has accomplished the feat.

Salisbury returns to action on Wednesday, April 17 when it hosts No. 3 York College of Pennsylvania in a crucial CAC showdown. Faceoff between the Sea Gulls and Spartans is set for 7 p.m.
