FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Capital Athletic Conference announced its weekly award winners for men's soccer on Monday and Salisbury University junior goalkeeper Trevor Brookhart was named the league's Defensive Player of the Week for the second week in a row.
In Salisbury's regular season finale Brookhart allowed only one goal in a 6-1 victory over Wesley College, making two saves in the match. The win clinched a playoff spot for the Sea Gulls.
Brookhart came up huge for the maroon and gold in the first round CAC playoff game against York College of Pennsylvania on Saturday night. The keeper made 10 saves while allowing just one goal in 110 minutes of action, sending the game to penalty kicks to decide the winner. In the penalty kick shootout Brookhart made a diving save on York's first attempt to give Salisbury an early lead. After reaching the 10th round of penalty kicks, Brookhart converted on his own penalty kick and saved the ensuing York attempt to advance the Sea Gulls to the semifinals.
Salisbury faces top-seeded Christopher Newport University on Wednesday, November 1 at 5 p.m., in a CAC tournament semifinal match.
