VIDEO: Men's Soccer vs. Christopher Newport CAC First Round
The third-seeded Salisbury University men’s soccer team advanced past sixth-seeded Christopher Newport University in the first round of the Capital Athletic Conference tournament on Saturday afternoon in a penalty kick shootout. After the Captains got on the board in the 30th minute, Josh Woozley tied the game 1-1 with just 25 seconds remaining in the first half. Neither team could find the back of the net the rest of regulation or either overtime, however, sending the game to penalty kicks. Robbie Budd converted on the first try for Salisbury, while Trevor Brookhart came up with a save on Christopher Newport’s first attempt. In the second round, Matt Hawkins made it two straight for the Sea Gulls, while the Captains kept it close with a shot that managed to sneak in. Ryan Spadin’s attempt was turned away in the third round, but the score remained 2-1 after Christopher Newport’s shot bounced off the crossbar. Cullen Myers sank his shot in round four and Brookhart came up with another save to clinch the shootout for Salisbury. The Sea Gulls advance to the CAC semifinals to face second-seeded St. Mary’s College of Maryland on Wednesday, October 31 at 2:30 p.m.
