VIDEO: Men's Soccer vs. No. 8 Mary Washington
The Salisbury University men’s soccer team upset No. 8 University of Mary Washington 2-1 on Saturday afternoon in Capital Athletic Conference action. Before the game, the team honored its three seniors, Cameron Wilson, Robbie Budd, and Trevor Brookhart. After the Eagles got on the board in the 18th minute, Ryan Spadin answered with this one-timer off a cross from Kevin Eriksen, which was redirected in front of the net. Matt Hawkins nearly gave the Sea Gulls the lead coming out of the break, but Mary Washington goalkeeper Ken Kurtz came up with a diving save to keep the game tied. Trevor Brookhart, who finished the match with six saves, returned the favor with a great save of his own in the 64th minute. With just under 17 minutes to go, Salisbury had a nice sequence in its offensive end, including a chance by Spadin and Robbie Budd, but Kurtz once again turned the Sea Gulls away. Junior Matt Mackenzie notched the game-winner with just 2:39 remaining as he fired a free kick into the back of the net for his first career goal and the 2-1 victory. Salisbury concludes its three-game homestand on Wednesday, October 17 against Christopher Newport University at 4 p.m.
