Video: Swimming vs Catholic
The Salisbury men’s and women’s swim teams opened their seasons on Saturday, October 21 when they hosted The Catholic University of America Cardinals at the Maggs Aquatics Center. The men’s team captured their first victory of the afternoon when Peter Moyer finished in first place in the 200-meter freestyle with a time of 2:00.46. They would find themselves in victory lane only two events later. This time, it was Josh Brown finishing first in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 24.04 seconds. The women would secure their only first-place finish of the afternoon when Angela Barzanti out-paced her opponents in the 400-meter freestyle, recording a time of 4:57.76. Moyer earned his second victory of the day when he finished in first place in the men’s 400-meter freestyle, with a time of 4:22.95. But the most exciting event of the day may have been the final one, as the two men’s teams faced off in the 400-meter freestyle relay. The Cardinals jumped out to an early lead, but Brown’s great start in the third leg put the teams neck-and-neck. Richard Baker dug in deep down the stretch to pull off the victory for the Sea Gulls by a hair with a team time of 3:42.07. The Cardinals would end up defeating the Salisbury men’s team, 104-63, and the women’s team, 149-55. The men’s and women’s teams will take to the water next when they host York College of Pennysylvania on Saturday, October 28 at 1 p.m.
