SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's tennis team picked up a 7-2 win against Harford Community College in the team's first match of the 2017 season, picking up the win at the SU Tennis Courts.
The Sea Gulls (1-0) picked up the first two points of the day in the top two doubles slots, with freshmen Colt Williamson and Ian Siew combining for an 8-3 win at No. 1 and the team of freshman Patrick MacLean and senior Grant Hudson going for an 8-6 win at No. 2
Salisbury got two quick points in singles play with straight-set wins from Rainger and Williamson. Rainger grabbed a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 6 and Williamson was good for a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 1 to put Salisbury one point away from the victory.
After the Fighting Owls (0-1) got their lone singles point of the day at No. 5, Hudson closed the match with one of a trio of three-set wins for the Gulls. Hudson dropped his opening set at No. 3 against Bradley Schug in a tie breaker, 7-2, but came back with a 6-1 win in the second and earned a third-set tie break win, 7-5, to secure the Sea Gulls' win.
Salisbury took two more points, with Siew going for a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 2 and MacLean earning a 6-2, 5-7, 7-6 (7-5) win at No. 4.
The Sea Gulls return to action on Sunday, February 19, hosting Juniata College and Stevenson University. The Juniata match begins at 9 a.m., followed by the Stevenson contest at 2 p.m.
