SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's tennis team picked up an 8-1 victory against Frostburg State University on Sunday at the Salisbury University Tennis Courts to open up Capital Athletic Conference play.
The teams split the three doubles matches, with Salisbury getting wins from sophomores William Niessner and James Kwedi at No. 2 and from senior Brandon Danganan and sophomore Ethan Brown at No. 3. Niessner and Kwedi won 8-1, while Danganan and Brown picked up their win by an 8-3 score.
The Sea Gulls (6-1, 1-0 CAC) swept the six singles matches with straight-set wins in each. Niessner came away with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 while Rainger won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3.
Three Salisbury players surrendered just three games in their victories with freshman Stefan Hein winning 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 while senior Connor Truitt at No. 5 and Danganan at No. 6 each won by 6-0, 6-3 scores.
The final Salisbury point came from a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 2 thanks to Malave.
Salisbury will play its next five matches away from home, beginning on Friday, March 9 at Franklin & Marshall College.
