SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's tennis team will travel to Christopher Newport University on Wednesday, May 2 for the semifinal round of the Capital Athletic Conference tournament, with the match against the Captains beginning at 3:30 p.m.

How We Got Here
The Sea Gulls went 16-5 in the regular season with a 5-2 mark in CAC play to earn the No. 3 seed in the tournament field. Salisbury had a first-round bye in the tournament. The Sea Gulls have been rolling over the past two weeks, winning their final five regular season contests.
How They Got Here
The Captains earned a 6-1 CAC record in the regular season to claim the No. 2 seed in this week's tournament. Christopher Newport was 13-8 overall and is the No. 34-ranked team in the nation. The Captains have won their last five matches entering play on Wednesday.
Scouting The Captains
Christopher Newport sports two of the top players in the Atlantic South region in David Reed and Justin Cerny. Reed is the 13th-ranked played in the region in singles play and carries a 14-11 record at No. 1 singles while Cerny is the No. 24-ranked player in the region, also with a 14-11 mark. The pair makes up the Captains' top doubles team, ranked No. 6 in the region, with 12-10 overall record, including a 3-1 mark in CAC play.
Last Time We Met
The teams met on April 14, also in Newport News, Virginia where the Captains captured an 8-1 win. Christopher Newport took control with three doubles wins, though all three were hard-fought, ending in an 8-6 score. Salisbury's lone point came from sophomore Matthew Ryan at No. 6 singles, where he picked up a 7-5, 6-1 win.
Mature Beyond Their Years
Three young faces in the Salisbury lineup have had stellar showings in the 2018 season with Ryan and Ian Siew making the most of their sophomore seasons while Stefan Hein has made a quick impact in his freshman campaign. Hein has played primarily at No. 3 singles and holds a 16-3 overall record, with a 4-0 mark in his stints at No. 1. He has won five matches in a row heading to the playoffs. Ryan currently has a 13-4 singles record, with Siew carrying a 12-3 record in singles play.
The winner of Wednesday's match will advance to the CAC title match against the winner of Wednesday's other semifinal between top-seeded University of Mary Washington and fourth-seeded Southern Virginia University. The championship match is scheduled for Saturday, May 5 at the highest-remaining seed's home courts.
