FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Capital Athletic Conference announced its weekly tennis awards on Tuesday and Salisbury University freshman Brad Pappalardo was named the league's men's Player of the Week.
Pappalardo helped Salisbury to a four-win week, including three CAC victories to begin conference play. The Ashburn, Virginia native won three times in singles play and twice in doubles. In an 8-1 win against St. Mary's College of Maryland on Friday, Pappalardo won 6-4, 7-6 (7-1) at No. 2 singles, just the second time this year he's played that high in the lineup. On Friday, against regionally-ranked Franklin & Marshall College, he teamed up with senior Kelson Weber to win at No. 3 doubles by an 8-7 (7-4) score.
Pappalardo and the Sea Gulls (11-4, 3-0 CAC) closed out the weekend with a pair of CAC matches on Sunday against Penn State University-Harrisburg and York College of Pennsylvania, winning both by 6-0 scores. Pappalardo played at No. 1 singles in each match, winning 6-0, 6-2 against the Lions and 6-4, 6-2 against the Spartans. He and Weber also took an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles against York.
This season, Papparaldo has posted a 7-0 mark in singles play and has gone 6-0 in doubles.
The Sea Gulls return to action this weekend, traveling to Southern Virginia University and Frostburg State University to continue CAC play.
