YORK, Pa. – The Capital Athletic Conference announced its weekly softball awards on Monday and Salisbury University sophomore Shannon Powell was named the league's Pitcher of the Week.
Powell had three starts last week, going 3-0 with two complete games while posting an earned-run average of just 1.17. In 18 innings, she struck out 11 and walked none to improve to 6-2 on the season.
Her best performance of the week was a complete-game shutout of Frostburg State University on Sunday, April 2, so ensure a doubleheader split with the Bobcats. In that game, Powell gave up just five hits over seven innings, striking out six.
The only non-complete game for the Rockville, Maryland native was a four-inning outing against Southern Virginia University, in which Powell was lifted after four strong innings with an 11-2 lead in a five-inning contest.
The Sea Gulls return to CAC action this Wednesday, April 5 hosting Wesley College for a doubleheader at Sea Gull Softball Stadium, beginning at 3 p.m.
